LifeAssays? Point-of-Care System for Blood Analysis
In-house diagnostic testing not only helps people live longer by providing early intervention and more effective treatment, but it is also cost effective, eliminating the need for physician re-visit to obtain laboratory results. LifeAssays® AB has developed a unique patented point-of-care system capable of providing fast, accurate and affordable diagnostic tests in-house. The user-friendly POC system consists of a bench-top instrument, single-use reagent tests and disposable algorithm chip.
Better Traceability. Improved System Control.
The LifeAssays? Reader offers a new alternative for POC testing by utilizing a disposable algorithm chip, which contains all reagent identification data, as well as, a self-executable algorithm. The disposable chip is inserted into the reader when a new reagent kit is opened and remains in the reader until the last reagent vial in the kit is disposed of. Thus, reagent upgrades are provided with each new reagent kit.
Easy-to-Handle. Accurate results within Minutes.
A single blood drop from a finger prick specimen is collected using a sampling device. This sampling device fits into the reagent vial. The reagent vial is placed into the LifeAssays? reader. The result is automatically displayed within 3-5 minutes using the disposable algorithm chip. Lastly, the reagent vial is removed for safe disposal. Test kits for high-sensitive C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) and normal range C-Reactive Protein will be available during the beginning of 2008. Tests for Human Albumin and Cystatin C will follow. Welcome to LifeAssays? premiere at booth 1D18/D20.
Accurate results within minutes. Anytime. Anywhere. This is what LifeAssays® is committed to providing.

Market potential
The overall US POC market was estimated to be $828 million in 2001 and is expected to increase to $1,915 million in 2007 (TriMark Publications, 2003). The POC market consists of two segments: hospital testing, which is an extension of the hospital centralized laboratory and decentralized testing which consists of physician office labs, nursing homes, pharmacies and other non-institutional settings. It is the decentralized testing which will be the target market for the MIA technology. This market segment was estimated to be worth $276 million in the US alone during 2001 and the drive for cost containment in the health care market will cause this segment to grow by 20% over the next few years.
